Lyrics of Panic

Panic on the streets of London
Panic on the streets of Birmingham
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again?
The leeds sidestreets that you slip down
I wonder to myself
Hopes may rise on the grasmere
But honey pie, you're not safe here
So you run down
To the safety of the town
But there's panic on the streets of Carlisle
Dublin, Dundee, Humberside
I wonder to myself

Burn down the disco
Hang the blessed D.J.
Because the music that they constantly play
It says nothing to me about my life
Hang the blessed D.J.
Because the music they constantly play

On the Leeds sidestreets that you slip down
Provincial towns you jog 'round

Hang the D.J. (31x)

'Panic' is a song by the British alternative rock band The Smiths, written by singer Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr. The first recording to feature new member Craig Gannon, 'Panic' bemoans the state of contemporary pop music, and implores its listeners to 'burn down the disco' and 'hang the DJ' in retaliation. 'Panic' was released by Rough Trade Records as a non-album single in 1986, reaching number 11 in the UK Singles Chart.
